The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are:
1. Alerting the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learnt in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding;
2. Promoting the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe, which must be preserved and fostered;
3. Encouraging lifelong language learning in and out of school, whether for study purposes, for professional needs, for purposes of mobility or for pleasure and exchanges.

Presenting ECL at Fischer Conference 2010 – post festum

First I’d like to say that it was a great pleasure for us to be part of this prestigious event, Fischer ELT Conference, Bucharest 2010!
Presenting ECL certification system, along with great speakers such as David Hill (Helbling), Gary Anderson, Jim Kalathas (Cambridge), Jeremy Harmer (Marshall), Mark Hancock , Tim Herdon, Vanessa Reilly (Oxford) and many others!.
All were really great inspiration and lots of good ideas were shared amongst participants.
ECL enjoyed very nice engagement and positive feedback, its multilingual and communicative approach being highly appreciated. The following were topics covered in the presentation:
- What is the ECL certificate?
- Which are its uses, advantages, and above all, its specific features for supporting the entrepreneurial effort of a young in the light of European Commission?
- How do certified language skills boost employment prospects and mobility of individuals?
- The experience of the speaker as Host Entrepreneur with Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (European Commission program) looking at the benefits that multilingualism provides.

De fapt “Question of the Day”: citim in Ziarul Financiar ca multi candidati la posturile de medici in tarile europene inregistreaza esecuri tocmai din cauza necunoasterii (suficiente) a limbilor straine si mai ales a termenilor de specialitate.
Si asta, in era Internetului, a lui Web 2.0, in care gasim (aproape) tot ce ne intereseaza la nivel informativ, apoi exista foarte multe materiale si surse de invatare a limbilor straine online sau in centrele de gen. Fara sa mai mentionam ca programe europene de finantare in domeniul educatiei (si nu numai) pot fi accesate de catre companii sau institutii pentru a oferi instruire.
Question of the Day: Sa fie oare lipsa de interes, superficialitate in pregatire sau accesul dificil la informatii de interes european?
Noi, in calitate de reprezentanta regionala ECL, militam tocmai pentru promovarea multilingvismului, pentru apartenenta certa la o multiculturalitate europeana, prin dezvoltarea si certificarea competentelor lingvistice.
Inauguram categoria “Originea unor expresii din limba engleza/alta limba”

Incepand cu acest post, vom introduce o serie la care va invitam sa contribuiti, in asa fel incat sa descoperim expresii “ciudate” sau care in limba romana sunt construite altfel. De altfel, in etimologie se spune ca la originea oricarei expresii aparent paradoxale sau de neinteles sta un fapt real.
O prima “ciudatenie” lingvistica celebra: ” to rain cats and dogs” – una din primele expresii cand luam contactul cu limba engleza in calitate de “learners”.
Se spune ca in Anglia Evului Mediu, cand oamenii locuiau in “case” construite pe jumatate in pamant, acoperite cu paie, crengi etc, fiind la mica inaltime cainii si pisicile stateau “pe acoperis”. Astfel, in cazul unor intemperii, “acoperisul” se prabusea peste “ocupantii” “casei” cu tot cu vietuitoarele de deasupra, deci chiar ploua cu caini si cu pisici.

… si daca va intrebati de ce am inclus Liga AC LABS in categoria “Word of the Day“, iata explicatia:
Astazi are loc deschiderea Laboratoarelor organizate de Liga AC din cadrul Politehnicii din Timisoara, in cadrul proiectului denumit chiar asa “Liga AC LABS” , in care compania noastra este partener.
Vom fi prezenti la deschidere, astazi incepand cu ora 16.00, la Electro, in amfiteatrul D1. Astazi vom prezenta cursurile pe care le vom sustine in proiect, tematica si modul de desfasurare si vom raspunde la intrebarile celor prezenti.
