Benchmark – verb, noun. – measure, target; to make a comparative analysis regarding your company’s performance and that of your competitor, or between several branches/departments a.s.o.

e.g. In order to improve the tendering process, they conducted a policy benchmark within the group.

By the way, do you know the origin of this  word, widely used in business?

(Here it comes:  some centuries ago, tailors were using a work table and chalk in order to mark the sizes and where to cut the cloth when making a piece of garment. They also had “benchmarks”, markings on their table, with different measures in feet and yards).
